REAPER is a complete digital audio production application for computers, offering a full multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing, and mastering toolset.
We learned something new today from Tony. He was interested in the Instrument Definition File (*.ins) we created for the Ketron SDxx series of instruments. We were familiar with using the file with Cakewalk. Once the file is installed, it makes it easy to select instruments and banks directly in Cakewalk and send the needed MSB/LSB and program change commands to the attached Ketron.
The catch was that Tony uses Reaper. He did a little digging and found:
All the banks and PCs work great, and I can select my patch via a dropdown menu. Reaper has a VST that comes with it called ReaControlMIDI(Cockos). That is where you have to go to make this work.
By importing the *.ins file for Cakewalk into Reaper he is now able to control his Ketron SD1000 from Reaper — NICE!
